Ms. Alkas has been a Partner in the firm since 2002. Her practice consists of primarily first-party claims, insurance bad faith and extra-contractual litigation. She often provides insurers with complex, claims-handling advice and coverage opinions. Recently, this advice has focused on the handling and litigation of mold claims. She also litigates multi-party class actions, personal injury, premises liability, police and governmental entity defense, dram shop defense, and employment lawsuits throughout the State of Texas. She is licensed in the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Southern, Western and Eastern Districts of Texas.

Ms. Alkas joined Daw & Ray from the Harris County District Attorney’s Office where she was an Assistant District Attorney. The numerous misdemeanor and felony cases she has tried include forgery, domestic violence, aggravated robbery, aggravated sexual assault, and aggravated assault. Her tenure as an Assistant District Attorney has proven invaluable in representing clients in civil suits involving the commission of a crime, such as premises liability for inadequate security, wrongful detentions, false imprisonment, and civil rights violations by peace officers.

Ms. Alkas graduated from Rice University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Managerial Studies. She received her Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Houston Law Center and was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1992. In addition to her studies at the University of Houston, Ms. Alkas was a member of the honors legal fraternity Phi Delta Phi and was an articles editor of The Houston Journal of International Law. She has published two articles, one concerning immigration law and the other concerning a comparative legal study of health laws in Africa.

 

 

The State Bar of Texas, through the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, does designate attorneys as board certified in various areas of law. Willie Ben Daw, III, James L. Ray, and C. Thomas Valentine are board certified in personal injury trial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. No other attorneys associated with Daw & Ray are board certified in any field recognized by the State Bar of Texas.
