Mr. Chen received a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Psychology from the University of Houston in 1999. While mired in the morass of writing his Ph.D. dissertation on an obscure German philosopher, he made the decision to enroll at the University of Houston Law Center. He graduated with his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree in 2007 and was admitted to the Texas bar the same year. Mr. Chen is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. He practiced in the field of immigration law prior to joining Daw & Ray in 2008.
Before becoming a lawyer, Mr. Chen served as the Executive Director of Houston’s Asian Chamber of Commerce under Theresa Chang, Harris County District Clerk from 2007 to 2009. While in law school, he worked as a legal intern at OCA’s Houston chapter. He also founded the Society on Law and Politics (SLAP), out of a concern over the increasingly ideological and partisan nature of political discourse and of political organizations such as the Federalist Society, the ACLU, and the American Constitution Society.
At Daw & Ray, Mr. Chen’s areas of concentration include general civil litigation, insurance defense, and personal injury. He has several publications and paper presentations to his credit, including book reviews published in the Journal of Politics, the Journal of Law and Religion, and the Law and Politics Book Review.
